Friday's Fave Five #156

Hello!  Welcome to this Friday's Five Fave, a time when I stop and look back and reflect on five highlights of the past week.  This fun concept was the brainchild of Susanne, at Living to Tell the Story.  Visit her blog to participate!

1.  Cooler weather:  I love cool weather and temps around 75° are my idea of what temperature in heaven will be like.  We've been experiencing heavenly days this week, so I chose to use the fall button for FFF in honor of the upcoming season.

2. Mini road trip: My hubby and I took a few hours on Labor Day to go for a short road trip.  We visited a small town in Southern Illinois.  I came upon this neat old building with ivy growing on it.  I don't know why, but I love old ivy-covered buildings. I also love the architectural detail of this building - bay windows are a favorite of mine.  Our first home had a bay window ...

Next, we toured a State Park.  Let me just take a moment to applaud our country for making so many State Parks available.  It bothers me when I go to one and there are hardly any people there.  If we don't take advantage of the resources available to us, will parks and recreation departments be cut out of all governmental budgets?

I love the serene feel of this place - water and plenty of trees, what more could you want?

3.  I had previously shared about some new furniture that we had finally gotten delivered.  This week, and every week,  I have really enjoyed the new look of our home.

It's difficult to photograph since our bedroom is so small and our furniture so massive, but here is a shot showing my new comforter. I love the calming gray and white colors with a pop of my favorite burgundy.  You may be able to see one of my beloved shutters on the side of the curtains, and my mother-in-law's Dahlia quilt hanging from the quilt rack.

Here is our new triple dresser.  I love this piece!  I wish you could see how the silver drawer pulls sparkle in the light.  My favorite yard sale lamp and decorative plate look really good in this room against the soft gray walls.

Below is pictured our new reclining sofa in chocolate brown.  I've been relaxing here in the evenings using my laptop.  It's a great way to end the day! Since the photo was taken, I've gotten the perfect brown and cream zebra pillows to put on the sofa.  Now I plan to get a matching zebra area rug in front of the couch.

I love the bed we got for our daughter's room.  Love the tall white headboard!  I'm jealous that I can't manage to fit one of these into our room ...

4.  New hairdo - My hairdresser had to be out of town and my appointment was rescheduled.  By the time I  was able to get there, my hair looked awful.  When I emerged from the salon, I felt soooo much better. Nothing like good hair to help with the self-image!

5. Quote of the week:

"
You have the ability, with your words, to make a person stronger. Your words are to their soul what a vitamin is to their body. Max Lucado"

This makes me think of the scripture,

"
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer." Psalm 19:14

Help me to build up people with my words!

Thus sums up my week.  I'm looking forward to the weekend and all that God has in store for me.

It's always such a refreshment to one's self-esteem to get a hair cut esp when it's long overdo. Glad you were able to get in such refreshment this week.

COOL quote. I had to steal it for my Facebook status.

  7. I'm so glad you're getting to enjoy redecorating -- the new furniture looks great. We are having some of that "heavenly temperature" now that the heat wave has subsided. Glad you got to enjoy the parks. What restful places these look.
