Friday's Fave Five #116

(Warning!  This post is long and has several photos to load!)

I'm back!  I can't believe I missed Friday's Fave Five two weeks in a row, but I've been busy gaining a son-in-law, cooking for family, and going on a road trip to Oklahoma. I've so much to tell you!

Where to start ....

1. I guess I will share with you in chronological order. The first week that I was scarce in the blogosphere was taken up with numerous trips to Hobby Lobby and Wal-Mart laying in supplies for the BIG DAY.  Then all day Friday and up until 5:30 p.m. Saturday saw me running up and down the stairs at my church decorating and helping with the dinner for the reception.  Elissa was a very big help with decorating, along with Daniel and Janae.  Daniel, having just finished basic training, could move tables all by himself! Daniel's grandparents, aunts and uncle along with his mom did the cooking.  Jim and I were the "go-fers!"

Those were two very exhausting days!

Janae's colors were black and silver.
I was wondering how Daniel's mom and aunt would incorporate those colors in the cake they were making.  I think it turned out well, and we are so grateful for their hard work.

Janae is not a frilly person at all, so she opted for simple decor.

Everything turned out very well.  We had approximately 95 people stay for the reception.  We had plenty of food.  Daniel's grandpa made excellent chicken and dumplings and everyone loved them.

I have to compliment my kids - what other newly married couple would stay afterward and help clean up?  Daniel and Janae did!

2.  After the wedding, my mom, sister and nephew stayed and visited through Thanksgiving Day.  We went out to lunch one day, another day visited some cousins about an hour away, and I got to make them dinner three times.  Once we had baked spaghetti, another day we had meatloaf, and of course, Thanksgiving Day we had turkey, ham and all the trimmings.

Unfortunately, I was so busy with cooking and visiting, I didn't take a single picture!

3.  The next weekend we headed to Oklahoma with Daniel's mom and stepdad to take the kids their furniture.  I'd never been to Oklahoma before.  It was very windy!  But I also got to see some great scenery.  Here's just a few photos:

Here's a road picture I took standing above the road.  McDonald's is built on top of an overpass!  You can see the McDonald's sign's shadow across the road.

4. My next favorite thing is that I didn't lose my pictures!  While touring the Holy City of the Whichitas where there is a Passion Play performed every spring, I gracefully stumbled on some rocks and fell.  My camera went flying and landed on a rocky path.

When I checked my camera, it said the memory card had to be formatted, and no pictures were showing up in the review window.  I was crushed!

Seriously!  I was so depressed.

I had some great photos  - like the inside of this charming little chapel.  A wedding ceremony was about to take place after I snapped this picture:

I would have hated to lose this photo!

But my brilliant daughter, Lissa, told me to not do anything with the memory card till I got home.  She was able to put the memory card into her laptop and retrieve my photos for me!  I'm so glad I have kids to help me with technology!

5.  My last favorite thing to sum up these past two weeks is a new hot beverage to relax with:  Hills Brothers English Toffee Cappucino!  It's very yummy and soothing.

  3. Jerri! You are definitely "excused" for missing the FFFs -- what a great time you all must have had (exhausting, but great!). The wedding looked beautiful, especially those big happy smiles. And those are terrific family photos in Oklahoma.

  4. The wedding looks lovely! Glad it all went well. I was thinking of ya that weekend - praying for all to go off without a hitch. Did you have fun?

How great that you already got to go see where your kids are living! Hopefully, that road will become quite familiar to you. Or, you'll find several routes to take you to the same place. :)

Glad your girl was able to save your photos. What about your camera? was it also damaged?

  5. I like your daughter's taste and style! I think her cake turned out esp. beautiful! LOVE the color scheme. It sounds like it was a perfectly wonderful occasion.

  7. What an exciting time a "Wedding"

Yes, your right the cake did turn out great. Everyone looks so beautiful all dressed up. Your daughters are lovely.

I'm with you don't like driving anywhere when it is windy especially long drives. A McDonald's on an overpass can't say I have ever seen that before.

That's what we have children for all the modern technology we can't get. I'm glad she was able to retrieve your photos.

  8. What a fabulous time! The wedding looks lovely: the bride, the decorations, the cake, and everything else! Congratulations on your new son-in-law!

The toffee cappuccino sounds wonderful. It looks as though my supermarket doesn't carry it, but Target does.

    Have a blessed week!

  9. What a beautiful wedding party! Congratulations! You had some great news to share this week. So glad you didn’t lose your pictures. That would have been a REAL bummer for me, too, if it had happened. Have a nice quiet weekend.

  13. Ahhh! Those wedding pictures are beautiful!
Kids and technology? I hear you on that one. BUT, I was so proud of myself - for figuring out how to put a signature on my texts before my kids figured it out. *grin*

I'm so glad all your pictures were retreived...that happened to me on my cruise in the Mediterranean...and my son was able to retrieve my 1000 photos.

  15. OH how lucky that your daughter was able to save the pictures. It's a good thing those kids know so much more about computers than we do!

  16. Congratulations to the obviously very happy couple! What dept of the military is your new son-in-law a part of? (Thank him for serving!)

The wedding and wedding party were indeed beautiful.

Oklahoma is an interesting place to live. I'm sure you'll spend a lot of time driving there and back often.
