Thankful Thursday - Protection

I'm joining in with the ladies today at Thankful Thursday, a weekly meme that celebrates having a thankful heart.  You can link up over at Grace Alone.

Iris has chosen the theme "thankful for protection ..."

I am definitely thankful for the Lord's protection, and I'm thankful that He reassures us by His Word.

I have shared before about my first experience with trusting God for safety when I was pregnant with my first child.  My husband was working the midnight shift leaving me alone in the city each night.  We had just moved from a country setting to the city and it was such a big change for me.  I heard so many noises all night long!  I learned to open my bible each night to Psalm 91 and read those wonderful promises of God's protection - IF we have been dwelling in Him.  I read it over and over until I was able to fall asleep.  Each night, it took less time for me to fall asleep, until finally, I could claim victory over fear.

Another favorite scripture I quote when afraid is Psalm 56:3, "What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee."

Iris wrote about being thankful for God's protection while driving.  I, too, am thankful for that, but as a mom, even more important to me is protection for my three girls as they drive.  Yes, that's right, all three of my daughters are now drivers.  I quoted Psalm 56:3 constantly while they were learning to drive.  I still quote it whenever I am worried about whether they are in good driving conditions, or they haven't returned home when I thought they should.

I always feel calmer when quoting God's Word.  No, it's not a magical formula that keeps bad things away, but it reassures me that no matter what happens, He is there with me and I can trust Him.

  3. Hi Jerralea, Isn't God's word so comforting. I know for me, it stills my mind and soul and makes me focus on him. I've heard said all my life that quoting God's word was powerful, but when you experience it first hand you don't know how powerful it can be.

    Loved your post!
    Hugs,
    Cindy
