Once again, Friday has rolled around and it's time for Friday's Fave Five - a time to reflect on our week and pick five of our favorite things.
1. Fresh cherries: This week I've been munching on crisp, sweet, fresh cherries at lunch time. I love when fresh cherries are available! Funny thing, as much as I love fresh cherries, I hate anything artificially cherry flavored.
2. Memories: Of course, I have a bunch of memories, good and bad, but I choose to reflect on the good memories. This picture below represents a good childhood memory:
This tree has grown a lot now, but when I was a kid, I used to visit my aunt, and we'd sit under this tree to cool off. (She didn't have air conditioning.) She would fill buckets of water, sometimes even putting ice in the water, and give us each one. We'd then sit under this tree with our feet stuck in the buckets of water and cool off. We'd sit for hours just talking and laughing or maybe reading. There was always a breeze ...3. New tablescape: I love to change the look of my kitchen table. Here's the latest:
This includes my recent treasures from yard sale-ing. You might remember my candlesticks from an earlier post. I found this bowl last weekend. Here's a close-up:
A milk glass bowl for 50 cents!4. Lemons: I used to buy myself one lemon a week. I would cut it into 8 wedges, and use one wedge a day. One day out of the week, I'd splurge and have two wedges. Then I decided that I'm worth it, so now I buy a bag of lemons at a time! I have a fresh wedge of lemon whenever I want. It's the little things.
Anyway, here is a cute glass jar that I found at a yard sale to keep my extra lemons in:

ReplyDeleteAh... memories! That's a nice one with your aunt. I love reflecting on good memories too. Your kitchen table is a pretty new. I love yard sales too. Shortly after getting married we moved into an empty 4-storey townhouse and in a matter of weeks I filled it all up with things I hauled in from everywhere

ReplyDeleteMany of my wonderful memories of my grandparents were under an old tree on their farm....my favorite memory under the tree...shelling pecans! :) If memory serves, they didn't have a/c until they moved into town.

Hi Jerri! Love your yard sale-ing treasures. I really like to change up the table too with my latest treasures. I love fresh summer fruit. I do not like cherry pie but I love fresh cherries. It's good to reflect on those good memories!! Blessings on your weekend...

ReplyDeleteI love to get lost in my memories at times. Both my parents are gone now and my sister lives on the other side of the country. Sometimes I just sit and wander off down memory lane to bring them all right back to me.
I like your new table center. I have been getting free lemons from my SIL tree, its been great, I can use ALL the lemon I want ;)

What a great story about soaking your feet in buckets of water under that tree. I almost felt like I was there just reading about it.
ReplyDeleteI love cherries, too. We planted cherry trees, but we're waiting for them to fruit. *Maybe* next year. Artificial cherries don't even taste remotely the same as the real thing.
Great job on the yard sale finds. That milk glass bowl is so pretty on your table. And only for 50 cents!!!! What a score! :)
I don't know why my daughter's friends rave about my french fries! They are frozen Ore-Ida Golden Fries that I cook in the deep fryer at 400 degrees until they rise to the top of the oil. I guess their moms cook them in the oven (an alternate cooking method listed on the package) and they just don't come out crispy enough.
