Thankful Thursday - Hearing God's Voice

Just the other day, I was thinking about why it was so difficult to determine God's voice amongst the myriad of voices vying for our attention in today's world. Then I found out the topic for this week's Thankful Thursday challenge is about that very thing. Lynn at Spiritually Unequal Marriage (Thankful Thursday's hostess this month) suggests that a drawback to hearing God's voice may be a lack of obedience.

After mulling this over, I have to agree. Why should God tell you something else when you haven't done the first thing He told you?

At my first church office that I worked in, we had a standing joke. When Pastor Dale would come in, he'd ask, "Has my fax from God come in yet telling me what to do?" I'd reply with a straight face, "No, no fax yet." "Well, then I better go into the sanctuary and pray," he'd say. And he would do it. (A lot of people say they need to go pray and never do it. He always did.)

Really, I think that is the key. Of course, God could make it easy for us to hear His voice, but He'd rather we take the time to seek Him and know that we KNOW we had heard from God.

What if you've prayed and prayed and still don't seem to hear God's voice regarding your situation? I think that means to stop right there and wait. God's timing is perfect and He will let us know when the time is right.

Now, on to my thankful list:
  • 23 years ago today, I became a mom for the first time to an amazing girl! Elissa has brought us so much joy over the years. She has truly been a gift from God and I am thankful that I get to be her mom.
  • I'm thankful I obeyed God's promptings over the years and took the jobs that He arranged for me leading me to where I am today - secretary to two of the greatest church families ever!
  • I'm also thankful that years ago I prayed for the Lord to lead me to a Christian boy I could date, and as you can guess, that boy became my hubby of 33 years.

  4. What if you've prayed and prayed and still don't seem to hear God's voice regarding your situation? I think that means to stop right there and wait. God's timing is perfect and He will let us know when the time is right.--- wait upon the Lord. He will reveal Himself and His will when you wait upon Him. His timing is perfect. as i write this, i'm also reminding myself that i need to wait upon the Lord.

this is what i posted in my facebook this morning (from joel osteen ministries)...

I’m sure David had to fight the same negative thoughts that we do; thoughts that were telling him “It’s not going to happen. David, you didn’t hear from God. Just accept it.” The battle was taking place in his mind just like our battles take place in our minds. During those times when it seems like you aren’t getting any closer to seeing your dream come to pass, remember, the scripture tells us that through faith and patience we inherit the promises of God.

WAIT FOR GOD. HE WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.

  5. Praying and praying without an answer usually means wait...in silence... Sometimes, I think, we talk too much when we pray and don't spend enough time listening. Thanks for sharing your heart.

  6. What a wonderful Thankful Thursday post. Thank you for stopping by my blog of FFF.

I have to tell myself that it is all on God's time, not mine. So often I can't be still enough to hear God's word.

    Blessings,
    Pam
