SFMTY-Leavin' on a Jet Plane

This morning, I was listening to Joyce Meyer teach on finances. What a way to start the day!

She said that if you can't pay for a vacation without using any credit cards, you shouldn't go. Bummer ... that statement confirmed what I already knew ... unless something miraculous happened, this summer we'll be sticking close to home ...

I started thinking about past vacations. Of course, today being Thursday, I was thinking about what picture to use for Sincerely 'Fro Me to You. I decided to use this picture from the past. This is a picture of my family (before my sister was born) going on a vacation to New Orleans. This was probably taken in the mid 1960's. I doubt if my parents went into debt to go, because my dad worked for Eastern Airlines and we got to fly for free (well, he had to pay the taxes).

It was a requirement that if you were an employee of Eastern, you had to dress in your best to ride their airplanes. Therefore, we dressed in our church clothes to board the plane. Don't you just love my little brother's hat?

Be kind, and don't say anything about my knee socks and frizzy hair.

Ahh ... the memories ...

  1. I'm glad I had a chance to visit your blog today, via WATF.
Love the photo and story. :)
That's probably about how I would have been dressed back in the day.
    I'm a child of the '60s myself.
    Have a great day!

  2. I love vintage pictures. I wish people still dressed nicely when they went places.

  3. It still makes me crack up that my momma wore her Easter dress on flights, but I wear things that are just a step up from pajamas. Then again... they didn't used to cram you into the plane like sardines.

And I too really like to listen to Joyce Meyer. I saw here live once a few years back.

  6. That hat is adorable! My husband's cousin works for Continental and they too have to dress up for flights.

  7. I love this post! Of course I am sitting here in pajamas at 2:25 reading it. There were days when people just tried harder, you know.

  8. Great photo and story!

We used to dress up for everything. I remember my mother getting spiffed up special, for doctor appointments. I never did understand the point, since you disrobe. It sure makes you look at how different our lives have become.

  9. Such a good memory. I remember flying on Eastern Airline when I was little.

I have a friend whose dad was a pilot and he raised her to ALWAYS dress up for traveling.

I'm gonna stick with comfort though.
