Sign

As we travel this journey on the road Home, it sometimes feels a little confusing. Should I go this way? What about going left at the next intersection?

We wish for a map, or at least some kind of sign.

You know ... one that says, "Destination Heaven, 1034 miles"

Or a Voice Navigator that says "Keep left. Stay in the left lane. Keep left"

Whenever I've had to make a decision, I always wished God would send me a fax giving me explicit directions on what to do

But it's more than just direction that we want from a sign. What we really want is PROOF. Proof that not only does God care and guide, but proof that He exists and He really is who He says He is.

Twice in the book of Matthew, Jesus told the people that it was "a wicked and adulterous generation that seeks after a sign." Matthew 12:38-40 and Matthew 16:3-5

I understand why He says a generation that wants a sign is wicked because they don't trust, but why does He call them adulterous?

Because they'd rather have anything, like a clearly marked path, than to have Him as their guide. They've rejected Him as their leader.

So, He won't give us a sign. We don't need one. We just need Him.

The Journey is our way Home. There is nothing more important than making that final destination. Jesus paid my ticket there, but I have to walk it out. In October, I will be observing the things that happen while traveling the Journey and writing a daily post about my observations.

Because I like to stretch myself, I will also do a challenge within a challenge - 31 days of 5 minute free writes. I will take a topic and run with it, writing furiously for 5 minutes, tailoring it to relate to my theme of examining life along the Journey.

If you are a subscriber, you will receive my #31Day posts each day. If you're not a subscriber, why not? Please go up to the Follow By Email box in the very top of the right column and enter in your email address. I don't want you to miss a thing!

  1. So true we don't need a sign, just Jesus. And when God has laid out his plans (i.e. in the case of Moses when he tells him what Pharaoh is going to do, etc.,) Moses still has trouble believing it all. Would we do the same if it was laid out? Probably, that's why God doesn't do it. We need to just trust in his wisdom.

  3. Hi Jerralea! I really admire you for taking on the 31 day challenge, and for free-writing every day. I just don't think I'd ever make the time.
Proof. Yes indeed, I am always wanting some of that, a fax would be fine too! I think it's our great desire to serve and obey that leads us to want to do it right. No deviations, just straight on in his will. I know that God will honor us for that desire, but it's not very logical. I am a human, and therefore distracted and imperfect. The good news is that I'll get there eventually, with him to lead me. Phew!
    Have a great Thursday,
    Ceil

  5. Hi Jerralea, You haven't posted this week on FFF but I was reading the blog of one of my college friends and saw your name (which admittedly is unusual). Hmmmm, how do you know Sue at Welcome Heart? Through The Loft! What a small world blogging is!
    I'll enjoy reading your challenges.
