F.F.F. - 11.13.15

Can you believe it? It's Friday again, and we are mid-way into the fourth quarter of 2015. (Since bookkeeping is one of the hats I wear, I think in quarters.)

Every time I begin to write up a FFF post, I first think, "what happened this week?" My first thought is usually ..."nothing." But then I go back over the week, day by day, and it is surprising what you can glean.

1. For instance, last Saturday was a busy day, but Jim and I made time to go out to eat and make a road trip lasting about 3 hours. We meandered through some country roads in Missouri and found these:

Those stained glass windows match the sky!

The church had an adjoining cemetery.  I think cemeteries should be next to the church. What better graphic reminder that life is fleeting - get right with God now?  :)  Also, wouldn't you love to be sitting in the church with your eyes on the cemetery when the trumpet sounds and the dead in Christ rise first? (Just kidding... it will happen faster than you can blink an eye. You won't be able to see it!

Next, we saw this beautiful church on the hill against a spectacular blue sky:

We found an old bridge. You can't see the writing on the sign, but it says it was built in 1879.

The bridge spans this lovely scene

2. Sunday was an awesome day. Wonderful messages, good worship, amazing prayer time and some visiting guests who joined in and added their voices to the worship made for a beautiful day. I don't know when I've felt so encouraged.

3. This week was a good week of visiting with my girls and the grands. Malia came over Saturday night and we had a good visit. During weeknight dinners with Elissa and Janae the twins were both their goofy and charming selves:

4. Spiritually, it was a great week for me as well. I am getting so much out of Max Lucado's "Glory Days!" Also, I've been deep in Philippians 3 and in the book of Joshua. Scripture just speaks to me.

5. Quote of the week:

"This is your destiny. This is you at your best. When yo stand at the intersection of your skill and God's call, you are standing at the corner of Promised Land Avenue and Glory Days Boulevard. This is Canann." (pg. 142, Glory Days - Max Lucado)

You. Need. To. Read. This. Book.

And so another week on the Journey ends. How did YOUR week go?  Leave a comment (which are so precious to me) or consider linking up at Susanne's place, Living to Tell the Story.

  1. What a lovely drive! Our church is surrounded by quite a large cemetary. I love to read the old stones.

I'll have to check out Max Lucado's book Glory Days - we did "You'll Get Through This" as a group study last year. It was very good too.

Hope you have an awesome weekend Jerralea!

  2. That does sound like a fun excursion! I do the same thing many Fridays - it seems like nothing has happened until I take the time to think about it, one reason I love FFF. I try to jot things down during the week but don't always remember. Glad you had a wonderful Sunday and good time with family!

  5. I always like to explore cemeteries; sadly no one else in my family does so I always have to quickly go through them if others are with me. Seems like a great week for you :) Hard to believe we are winding down 2015!

  6. I had never thought about a cemetery next to a church in that way. Definitely makes sense though. I'm glad you had a good week.

  8. What a gorgeously still river. It's fun exploring and finding little treasures in a road trip. Your church and cemetery thought made me laugh right out loud. Wouldn't that be something. We are doing Max Lucado's book "Fearless" in ladies study starting in January.

  10. After seeing your photos, I think I need to take a drive with The Professor soon. We don't have as much 'old stuff' around here except for Spanish missions. But I'm sure we can find some spots--we've just been so busy...
I am studying Sermon on the Mount. Wow! So much to meditate on!
