December: Red

This time of year, when I think of red, I think of red poinsettias.

Every year, our church has a Hanging of the Green service the first Sunday of Advent and there is a processional where the poinsettias are carried in. I know Christmas is well and truly on the way when I see them surrounding the Nativity like a red sea.

All month long, I'm sharing photos of December.  Want to join in?  Link up at Susannah Conley's site. Let's celebrate December together.

  1. The hanging of the green sounds like such a nice part of the service. I love the red poinsettas and here they grow very easily.

  2. Our church doesn't do a Hanging of the Greens, but one nearby always has it posted on their sign out front. Sounds like a really cool thing.
I love red - but deep, lush red more than fire-engine red. Poinsettias are lovely and I also just love holly berries.

  3. Hi Jerralea! I have never heard of the Hanging of the Greens, but it sounds lovely. And it really heralds in the season of Advent for you. We have an Advent wreath at our church, and I have one at home too. There's room for four candles, one for each week of Advent. That's what makes me remember that Christ is on his way!
    Blessings,

  4. So lovely. I love the red ones best...white and pink are pretty, but red ones are so traditional. When our daughter lived in Mexico City there was a lady that lived across the street at the corner from her who had a poinsettia that was a huge tree...totally covered with the red!

  6. Pretty display with the poinsiettas! I remember one church we went to for the Christmas Eve service they would have tons of plants on the altar, always festive!
