Daybook: 08.04.14

FOR TODAY, the first Monday in August

Outside my window... a typical summer day.  Our respite from the heat is predicted to be over with today's temp forecast to rise to 90°

I am thinking... about my third cousin who lost her hubby last week.  I actually have 3 cousins who lost their spouses recently in the last couple of months.  I am feeling so sorry for them.  All three are younger than I am and I just feel it is too young in life to face these kind of things!  I'm praying that each one will feel God's comfort and presence in their lives.

I am thankful... for wonderful services Sunday.  I love it when the presence of the Lord is manifest in the services where everyone knows He is there.

In the kitchen...fresh green beans, cucumbers and home-grown tomatoes tonight. (AND someone just brought me some sweet corn.) Yum, yum.

I am wearing... white capris and a hot pink tunic embellished with gold trim.  I'm thinking that bright colors make me feel empowered. Or maybe it's the gold that makes me feel good.  I wear a lot of black so this thought is kind of surprising to me.

I am creating... a collage wall of pictures of the babies

I am reading... "Gathering Shadows" by Nancy Mehl. I recently read "The Treasure Principal" by Randy Alcorn. Very convicting.  I'm using a quote from his book in today's post.

Around the house... our rosebushes and vincas are blooming!

I am pondering... these three words:  Empower, Embolden, Equip.  I believe there is a bible study lesson in those three words.

A favorite quote for today...

"God prospers me not to raise my standard of living, but to raise my standard of giving." ... Randy Alcorn

I'm afraid I need to work on being a better giver ...

One of my favorite things... Strawberry Fields salad at Culver's - a new fave!

A few plans for the rest of the week: little projects around the house that I've been putting off ...

A peek into my day...

  1. It is humbling at our age to see people younger than us either dying or losing their spouses. It should make us appreciate our days and time better I think. I do think you are right, you can get a great Bible study with those three "E" words.

  3. I do enjoy reading anything by Randy Alcorn. I'll have to check that one out. Your home grown veggies sound wonderful! I'm so sorry to hear about your cousins losing their spouses. I guess it reminds us to treasure each day we have with loved ones.

  4. yes, the heat/humidity have returned. So sorry to hear of your cousins loss, all of them.
I could be a vegetarian in the summer with all the fresh produce we have. mmmm, mmmm.
I am looking forward to winter so that I will be motivated to get my inside projects done. Every night I am in the garden, exercising the dog, or just "being outside".
