There is something inside us that makes us want to belong. When we are young, it is overwhelmingly important that we fit in, that we find a group who accepts us. Most of us dream of being a part of the "popular" crowd, but it may be some sort of group which speaks to a special interest like a sports team or the band. We will go to great lengths to be accepted, sometimes changing our personal appearance or habits to be like those we admire.
Later on in life, we realize that family is the most important place we want to belong. Those who are single embark on a journey to find Mr. (or Miss) Right so they can create their own family unit. Extended family becomes more precious to us as we find we long for our own "people" who understand us and accept us.

If you are a believer and you don't have a church home, for whatever reason, begin now to find one. Pray and seek the Father's will. I am sure He will lead you to a place where not only can you belong, but a place where you can contribute as well.
We need each other!
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

"There is something inside us that makes us want to belong." Totally agree. It's crafted in us by our Creator.
ReplyDeleteAnd I definitely feel that pull towards family as my husband and I are a few years and two moves into marriage.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Dear Jerralea
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree!!! The most important place where we can belong is within the unity of those who are filled with the Holy Spirit. Like Jesus said that where two or more are gathered in His name, He will also be present.

So true about being part of a church body and going the extra distance to fellowship within it or be part of a small group within it. I know our church body/small group was influential in helping us when we first moved down here :)

Beautifully written. I miss having the community you find at church. My husband pastors at a boys prison. That is our community!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this!
What a beautiful post. And it makes me feel extremely blessed that I belong to a wonderful family as well as a wonderful church. I never really thought of it in the way you said it before.
