Close Encounter with the Most High

CLOSE

Maybe I'm weird but the first thought in my mind when I saw the prompt "close" was the phrase, "close encounters of the third kind."  Now I know that phrase is a title from a science fiction movie about aliens.  I looked it up on Wikipedia (where else?) and found this statement, "The title is derived from ufologist J. Allen Hynek's classification of close encounters with aliens, in which the third kind denotes human observations of actual aliens or "animate beings."

What I'm looking for is a close encounter with the Most High.  I know that it is very unlikely in this life that I will see Him face to face, but in eternity I will.  The Apostle Paul tells us that now it's like looking in a dark glass.*  We see a shadow of what He looks like by His attributes.  We have an idea about what He wants by reading His word.  Someday we will know.  Not just in part, but we will know everything about our Lord and His plan.  What is so unbelievable and mind-blowing and just plain old hard-to-understand will make sense to us then.

Until then, we strive by prayer, praise and being in the word to be close to Him, to know Him more.

The thought of actually beholding my Lord and Savior face to face ... well, it's just indescribable!

STOP

  1. I love the Chris Tomlin song! Your post had me singing another tune, the one by Mercy Me called I can Only Imagine. Except I think as vivid as our imaginations can be, heaven will be ten times that. Enjoy the long weekend!

  2. I immediately started singing the Mercy Me song in my head too. I do imagine. And I think Joyce is right - my imagination won't be able to come close.
