How Sweet the Sound!

Yesterday was one of those days.  From the moment my feet hit the ground until I tucked them back into bed that night, I had had one long continuously stressful day.

It was also bible study night, and I can tell you that I was looking forward to the worship time.  I seriously needed some praising and longed for the presence of the Holy Spirit.  Sister Andrea started us out on the song, "We Bring the Sacrifice of Praise."  I had to smile because it was so appropriate.  I didn't feel like praising but knew He deserved it nonetheless.

The next song, "I'm So Glad Jesus Set Me Free," gave us a reason to praise if we couldn't think of one on our own.  (Can you tell the Holy Spirit had obviously led Sister Andrea on her song choices?)

However, the sweetest song of all was her choice for the ending song. "Amazing Grace."

Let me tell you, it gave me goosebumps!  There was just something about singing in unison and in acapella (we don't have a pianist for the bible study service).  Our voices joined so sweetly and the presence of the Lord felt so near. I felt like angels had joined in singing. The troubles of the day just fell away from me in that moment.

At our last worship team practice, we had discussed what was our all-time favorite hymn.  Most of us said it was between "Amazing Grace," and "It is Well."  I was one that preferred, "It is Well."   But now, I don't know ... "Amazing Grace" is pretty amazing. No matter what era you live in, when you sing it, you can relate.  We all were wretches before the amazing grace of God touched our lives.

We were blind but now we see. When troubles hem us in and our path looks so dark and dreary that we can't see the next step to take, just knowing that grace will lead us Home brings such comfort!

  1. Jerralea,

What a great post! That line of "I didn't feel like praising but knew He deserved it nonetheless" really touched me through and through. He is SO worthy of our praise!

  2. I agree, Jerralea--Amazing Grace is pretty amazing. I typically prefer newer songs as opposed to the older hymns, but this one stays on my list of top music because the words and beauty of grace still surprise me and can leave me speechless.

I'm glad you were able to end your day in praise. It does make a difference! I should have been doing that myself the past few nights when I've felt so drained....

  6. Hi Jerralea! I am so happy that you were able to de-stress with your sisters in Christ and in song. Amazing Grace is a beautiful song. And really spoke to your mood too.

God wanted you to come and feel his peace. He is so awesome! Or should I say, 'amazing!'.

    Thanks for sharing today :)
