Let's Take A Walk

Since I've decided it is time to focus on fitness in my life, I had to find some kind of exercise that is doable for me.  I have a crazy busy work schedule and ministry commitments, so I don't really have the time to go to a gym and work out.

I briefly thought of jogging the track but ruled that out because of weather.  I wanted something that I could do consistently whether the temps outside were in the 90s or the teens, rain or shine.

I decided on exercising to the video, Walk Away the Pounds, by Leslie Sansone.

I enjoy WATP because whenever I'm ready to walk, Leslie and her group of walkers are right there, ready to go. I don't have to worry about the weather, all I need is about 5 square feet of floor space.

If you are wondering whether or not you really get a good workout, I can attest to the fact that I am dripping with sweat and my heart rate is definitely elevated when I am done.

I started out with the one mile walk and now I am starting the four mile walk.  The upper body is challenged as well as the lower body.  We start off slow and as the music gradually increases, our pace increases.  We always do a cool down and a stretch when we are done.

Stretchy bands and weights are used in some of the walks to give you a little weight training.  May I say that doing a tricep kickback kicks my butt!

So, if you are like me and do not have the time to go to the gym, consider using the Walk Away the Pounds DVDs. You can find her products here. In-home walking works for me!

  1. I have some of her DVDs and enjoy them! I'm coming off an ankle injury, so WATP is one of the few non-water workouts I can do.

  2. That's so great you found something that works so well for you, Jerralea!! Being able to walk and exercise without getting out in the heat or stormy weather sounds great. I think this would work for me, too, if I make time to have a regular exercise routine, because I get tired of power-walking in this Texas heat. It sounds like a great workout!

I have seen these videos before, but I'm glad to be reminded about them.

Hope you are having a great week!

  3. Dear Jerralea
Thanks for a good giggle! With my illness I cannot exercise much and soe days my exersice consist of rolling fom my right side to my left side on the bed. But when I am able, Hubbie and I go for walks along the beachfront. I enjoy this tremendously and it is quite low impact. If we overdo exercise, we can easily be bedridden for a week or so!
    Blessings and happy walking XX

  4. I like Leslie's walking tapes also, Jerralea. I've been away from them for awhile but will soon be getting back into that routine! I've been doing some stretching exercises to help my fibro muscles get a little strength and feel as if I am ready to get back in to the walking tapes again. Thanks for the motivation!

  5. I am a walker too, but don't do it consistently because of external factors. This sounds like the perfect solution for me. Thanks for sharing!

  6. I've never heard of this workout, but I did try Jillian's 30 day shred. That was tough too! Amazing how such small movements can make you work so hard!

  7. Hi Jerralea! Congrats to you on your progress from one mile to FOUR! That is just great. I have a friend who just loves those tapes.

Keep it up! You inspire :)
