We saw evidence of God's
creation - trees, sky, clouds, water, Queen Ann's lace, birds, an egret,
and dragonflies. We saw evidence of man's creation, too; both
intelligent creation of a wonderful wooden walkway that spanned the
Bottoms, and thoughtless creation by the trash floating in the water.
Look at the size of those posts supporting the walkway!

Upon reflection, I thought about the incredible beauty that God created by just speaking the word. He framed worlds by the words of His mouth.
In fact, during the creation of Earth, the only thing He chose to get His hands dirty to create was man himself.
He just had to be a "hands-on" God for man!
Like our Father, we, too, can be creative with the words we speak.
"Good job, I knew you could do it!"
"You're always so sweet."
"I can see the love of Jesus on your face."
"I know I can trust you."
"You're a mighty man of valor." (God called Gideon a mighty man of valor BEFORE he had done anything remarkable. He was calling forth what He knew Gideon could be.)
Just like anything else, what can be so beautiful, creative and uplifting can be used to destroy. Destructive words can sever a relationship in the time it takes to say them.
"You'll never amount to anything."
"You're so stupid. Why can't you learn?"
"How many times do I have to tell you?"
"I wish you'd never been born."
Please. Think about your words before you use them. They can be instruments of building a wonderful relationship, word by word. Or your words can irrevocably destroy.
It's your choice.

Words are such an important thing! There was a time in our culture when we were much more reserved in the words we used. It seems to me that now the norm is to just put out there whatever one feels or thinks even if it's to the detriment of another. How much better are kind words that build and lift up.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place you were "wandering" and your reminder is SO TRUE.. seems words are made cheap in this world of constant buzz and talk. And they are so powerful, indeed.

ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful and your words so true! I have suffered for a long time from verbal abuse from mu husband and it nearly broke the both of us, but when we turned to Jesus, He took all our ashes and created a beautiful, love-filled marriage from scratch.
