F.F.F. - 06.21.13

Happy Friday, one and all. I hope you are enjoying this first day of summer!

I've had a good week despite having a couple of challenges. Despite last week's post of proclaiming freedom of internet woes, when the weekend came, our internet at home just. Quit. Working. A whole weekend without the internet.  Wow!   And just to rub in the fact that we are so dependent on modern technology, the air conditioner went out for good, as well.

At least, we had separate a/c units for the bedrooms ...

But let's look on the bright side, shall we?

1.  On Saturday, a short road trip was on the menu for Jim and I.  But first, we had a birthday party to attend.  One of our favorite people, June, who is a member of our church, was celebrating her 80th birthday and her 60th wedding anniversary.  Her family hosted a lovely open house for her.  The food was delightful, and I really enjoyed seeing a lot of our precious friends that we have made over the years.  Our best buds, Wayne and Glenda, were there as well.

2.  Then we hit the road.  Since it was later in the day, we went to a lake that is not too far away from home.  We got out our lawn chairs and relaxed under a shade tree at the lake.  Perfect!  While there, we were entertained by a gaggle of geese who seemed to be oblivious to our presence.  They scavenged for food nearly under our feet.

It was a gorgeous day!

Love all the shades of green ...

Wonderful shade tree - I love trees!

We stayed until sunset.  No use going home early to a hot house!

3.  Father's Day Dinner:  On Sunday, we headed over to Jim's favorite restaurant, Delmonico's.  He loves to get the chopped steak and the buffet.  Malia and Elissa joined us.  It was a great meal - except for missing Janae and Daniel.

4.  Internet problem resolved:  On Monday, Jim figured out the internet problem.  A power surge on Friday had made our router die.  Technically, we had internet coming into the house but the computers could not connect.  One new router, and $50 later, problem solved.

5.  Yesterday, we decided to bite the bullet and replace our main air conditioner despite thoughts of moving up to the mountains of Tennessee where you don't even need air conditioning.  By nightfall, the house was cool and comfortable - definitely a favorite highlight for me!

Bonus:  Despite being tempted to not exercise since we had no a/c, I soldiered on and made it through my seventh week straight of Walk Away the Pounds. Go me!

And so ends another week of the Journey.  If you'd like to share your week, link up at the lovely Susanne's blog, Living to Tell the Story.

  1. I'm glad you got your Internet working again. Once we get used to it, it's hard to live without it! Your lake pictures are so pretty. I could sit under those trees all day. :)

  4. Applauding your determination with the exercise. I'm finding myself quite full of excuses lately.

Definitely something worth celebrating, 80 years old and 60 years married. That is an accomplishment few can lay claim to.

A day at a lake sounds just like what I would love.

  6. Ugh, I feel your internetless pain! We're so used to being able to connect and research at an instant. Well, at least you've pinpointed the problem and it is fixed.

What a great idea to head out somewhere pretty to enjoy the evening. And free entertaining geese, too!
