FFF - 05.03.13

I'm back!  I missed participating in last week's Friday's Fave Five because I was on a little road trip with my hubby and our best friends, Wayne and Glenda.

What a wonderful time!

Eating out every day, staying in a luxurious condo, shopping and going to shows to be entertained, laughing like crazy - it's a good thing that the trip was only three days.  I experienced withdrawal when I had to go back to work!  Why, oh, why was I not born a millionaire?  Sigh ...

1.  Our first night in Branson, we went to see Joseph, a play based on the life of Joseph from the bible.  It was very good and I highly recommend it. The play was presented at the gorgeous Sight and Sound Theater.

This theater has been used to put on several biblical plays and the decor reflects it:

Here is Jim posing as Goliath

2.  There were lots of attractions to see:

You can tell I was pretty fascinated by this!

The Titanic

Even President Reagan was there ....

Maybe next time, we'll actually go IN these exhibits!

3.  Saturday was a wonderful day of shopping, eating, and laughing.  We went to the Pierce Arrow show and I laughed until I cried!  (I think everyone would get a kick out of that show.)  By then, we were in a silly state of mind.  We began to discuss country stars and their songs (Did you know George Jones died that day?).  I decided to give my rendition of "Oh, Lord, It's Hard to be Humble," made famous by Mac Davis.

I tell you, Branson is my new favorite place.
4. Our trip ended on Sunday with a stop in Mansfield, MO, to see the home of Laura Ingalls Wilder.  I was so excited to be there.  I have a ton of pictures but today will just share these:

The Rock House - a home that Rose Wilder Lane built for her parents

Rocky Ridge Home - the place where Laura wrote her books

5.  I couldn't end my post without leaving you this week's quote for food for thought:

Even if we can't spend time preparing meals, let's spend more time over the dishes we serve. Let's spend longer than we need to at the supper table.

Because it's around the table and over steaming dishes that family... and life and love and everything holy... happens.

... from Emily Wieringa's post at Imperfect Prose

Sitting at the table talking and laughing with family and friends - why it just doesn't get any better!

As all my readers know, I link up on Fridays at the lovely Susanne's Living to Tell the Story to share the highlights of my week on the Journey.  Why don't you join us?

  1. I'm in complete agreement with you and Emily on your #5 - awesome. I didn't know about Laura Ingalls Wilder's house -- I'll have to put that on my Writer's Bucket List.

    Sounds like a wonderful week!

  3. Hello Jerralea,

I quite enjoyed your little singing session. It is get to put a face and personality to your blog. Thanks for sharing who you are with us.

What a wonderful weekend away with hubby and friends. All that laughter is such a great way to cement relationships, don't you think?

I've never been to Branson or Laura's home - both are on my someday list.

Next year let's plan on doing the April A-Z challenge together. I heard about it the night before it started. In 2014 I want to be prepared. I've already put it on my Google calendar. So I can be prepared.

  4. When my daughter was in college at Memphis I breezed down that highway to Mansfield so many times always remembering when the kids were little and we went there to see Rocky Ridge. How fun to see the photos and think how our "stomping grounds" cross from time to time!

  5. Oh, I love the Laura Ingalls Wilder books--all of them! Someday I'm going to go visit her home. LOVE the Rock House!
Just thinking--if you were a millionaire, you wouldn't appreciate the fun trips because they'd be a boring and usual activity like going to the grocery store. :)
