Amazing Wide Ocean of Love

On Fridays, I love to stretch myself by participating in Lisa-Jo's 5 minute Friday blog party.  Lisa-Jo gives us a word and we write for 5 minutes, writing from the heart, and not doing endless revisions of what we have written.  Just plain and simple off-the-cuff writing.  Visit her at her blog, Lisa-Jo Baker: tales from a Gypsy Mama, if you would like to participate.

Today's word is ....


WIDE

When I was a child we used to sing a song, "Deep and Wide, Deep and Wide, There is a fountain flowing deep and wide."

It was fun to sing and we had hand motions to the song, and we sang it multiple times leaving out a word and humming in its place.

There is another thing I think of when I think of wide:

Ephesians 3:17-19 (NIV)

17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.



How wide and how deep is the love of Christ!

Oh I am so glad -- His love is so wide there is plenty of room for us all to plunge into it, be covered by it, immersed totally.  His love covers all the not-so-beautiful parts of us - the stinky attitudes, the coarse part of us tainted by the world in which we now live.

It covers all of us.

The beauty part?  His word says He dwells in our hearts through faith ... which will root us and establish us in that amazing ocean of love.

Faith ... believing in that which is not seen....

  4. Amen to Christ's love for us being deep and wide! As Christians, we should see this as a real blessing.

    I also sang that song "Deep and Wide" as a child as well. I had almost forgotten about that song until you reminded me.

  5. This is so lovely...also reassuring. I bet you that when you were in your Sunday school singing Deep and Wide I could be found in a little cement block church in Western KS singing right along with you and we didn't even know it.
