Write the Love

This week's Writer's Workshop prompt that I chose was:
5.) The perfect Mother's Day consists of...

My perfect Mother's Day would begin with having all three of my children attend my church with me. (It would be a little difficult to do since they are grown, and one of them lives out-of-state)  After church, we would go to my favorite restaurant (currently O'Charley's), and be seated immediately. Of course, I would order my favorite - the appetizer combo.  Yum, I do love me some chicken tenders, baked potato skins and spicy jack cheese wedges.

Wow... I've made myself hungry ...

Of course, there would be gifts, and my family knows what I like (cute tops, earrings and chocolate), but even better would be heartfelt expressions of love written down in Mother's Day cards.

Yes, I must admit.it.  Words of affirmation are my number one love language. I treasure all the cards the girls have given me over the years.  I have them all (I even kept last year's cards which got wet in the flood that wreaked havoc in my home last May.  I managed to save them and I can still kind of decipher them.) I have even been known to frame some of my favorites!

The reason I love mushy Mother's Day cards is not so much that I am vain ... Okay, but the other reason I love them so much is that I feel they validate the job I am doing.  I mean, think about it, how else does a mom get feedback? I keep my cards and on the days that I feel like I have royally messed up, I reread them and bask in the love.

Sometimes, those words give me the strength to go on ...

After sharing lunch together, taking a few family photos to mark the occasion is a tradition.  Then heading home for naptime completes the day.

I've just described the perfect Mother's Day for me, and if any of my girls happen to read this, just remember:  Write the Love!

  2. Not only did you manage to make yourself hungry, you also made me hungry LOL! But yes words do go a long way, they have a lot of power which is why we must be careful how we use them. Kind words are medicine to the soul.

    Have a blessed Mother's Day!
