Quieting the Loud

Today I'm linking up at Lisa-Jo's blog for 5 minute Friday. The topic to write on is:

LOUD

Sometimes it seems like I am surrounded by noise.  At work, there is always sounds of equipment running, phones ringing, people talking.  At home, often the television is on as background noise.  Even at church, during times at the altar, there will be people visiting, not realizing their words carry to those who tarry in prayer.

Hustle, bustle ... the rush to commute here, to get something done there, to be a certain place at a certain time.  The noise of a busy life drowns me.

Sometimes, the noise is me admonishing myself that once again, I'm late ... I failed to do this, to do that.  There's no louder noise than failed expectations.

Sometimes, I want to go away somewhere to a quiet place and just be.  Whenever I do get an opportunity to do that, it feels like my spirit is being refreshed.  Silence can be like a long drink of water to a weary soul.

Sometimes, I wonder how I can quiet the loud everyday LIFE that is always beating at my senses.  I want to be able to hear that small still spirit of the Lord when He speaks to me.

It's not always going to be feasible for me to go sit by a lakeside and commune with God.  I have to find a way to do that in the midst of my workaday world.

I want to have a five minute solution to the real problem of noise pollution.

I must learn to quiet the loud.

For me, a start on quieting the loudness is to be intentional on getting up early, before the day begins, and commune with the Lord.  There may be no words - just listening ... and feeling.

Stop

I admit that it took me longer than 5 minutes to do this post - writing it took more like 8 minutes and loading the picture 3.
