Random Dozen - Birthday Edition

1. From "Men Are Dumb ....": If you had a theme song that played whenever you walked into a room full of people, what would it be?

I guess I spent way too much time going to Amway seminars when I was younger, but I'd love to hear the theme from "Rocky" played when I came into a room!  Sorry, I don't have a more spiritual or profound answer ...

2. From Pam of "Alert And Oriented x 4": Which of your shoes are your absolute favorite, and which are of the object of your most painful shoe-buyer's remorse?
My brown sling-back wedges are my favorite, the object of buyer's remorse is some black sandals I bought at Marshall's this summer.  After I'd worn them a couple days or so, they started to squeak every time I take a step.  I hate that! (Anyone know of a solution to keep shoes from squeaking?)

3. From Susanne of "Living to Tell the Story": Tell about your favorite birthday celebration that you've personally experienced.

Well, now it all seems funny and nice, but on my 50th birthday, people made a big deal with black balloons, funny signs, and bouquets with black flowers.  The worst thing, though, was that someone had a Meals on Wheels (Senior Citizens dinner) delivered to me!  The delivery person said, "I heard you're going to be needing these meals!"

4. From Lori of "Just me and My Life": If you were a flavor of ice cream, which would you be?
Mint chocolate chip - sweet rich chocolate with a tangy creamy bite - that's so me!

5. Cindy Swanson of "Notes in the Key of Life" asks: Have you ever had a crush on a movie star? Who was it, and are you still crushing?
This is funny ... I used to have a crush on Glen Campbell (when I was like 13). I had posters of him in my room and I had all his records.  Of course, I watched "True Grit" several times ... but no, I'm not crushing anymore ....

6. Jill from "Jill Boyd's Place" inquires: Glasses or braces--if you had to wear one, which would it be?
I've worn glasses since I was 17 and I don't think it's all that bad to wear them. In fact, I think my glasses define me. I wouldn't look like me without them.

7. Nel from "Fasteneau Facts" asks: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Interesting question, Nel!  I've never been there, but I heard that Salinas, California, was like 70° year round.  Since I don't like to sweat, and my husband hates being cold, it seems like Salinas would be the perfect compromise!

8. Thena from "Patiently Waiting" wants to know: If money were no obstacle, what would be the perfect birthday gift to receive?
A cruise, one that lasts as long as possible!

9. From "Life Through Bifocals," LynnMarie asks: What is your favorite birthday meal?
A perfect birthday meal is one I don't have to cook myself! Actually, we usually go out for my birthday.  I usually get the appetizer combo at O'Charleys.

10. Debby at "Just Breathe" checks in with: Do you still send hand-written thank you notes?
Yes, I do ... however, they are not always sent in a timely manner!

11. Linda from "Mocha with Linda" poses this question: What is something you've done that you never thought you'd do?
After struggling with infertility 10 years, becoming a mom was something I thought I'd never do ... but I did!  I had three baby girls over a period of 7 years.  They're all practically grown now, but I still have times of looking at them and I have to pinch myself to remind me that yes, I'm awake, and they are all really mine!

12. Jewel, my homegirl from Indiana who writes at "Musings from the World of Jewel," is very insistent that we answer this: Mount Rushmore honors four US Presidents: Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt. If you could add any person to Mount Rushmore, who would you add and why?
Who would I add to Mount Rushmore and why?  That is really a tough question, because we already have Lincoln up there, and I think he is one of the greatest Americans ever.  I guess if I were going to add someone, I think of Billy Graham because he is the greatest (or at least the most well-known) preacher of our times.  I mean, we have 4 political leaders, why not a spiritual leader.  America was built on spiritual principles, I don't care what people try to say about it nowadays, and we should honor that.

  1. Glenn Campbell WAS very handsome, and I loved some of his earlier tunes, like "Galveston" and "Wichita Lineman."

    Really enjoyed your replies!

  2. Hi Jerri! Hope you're well, and congratulations on your daughter getting married! How exciting!

PS. If you go just a bit southwest of Salinas, you'd find yourself in Seaside and Monterey...much prettier and still nice weather. :)

  4. That meals on wheels is so funny!
I agree, not cooking on the birthday. Not sending the notes out on time is okay as long as you send them! Love your answer to #11.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.

  6. I love the birthday celebration. I would of killed my kid if they would of had meals on wheels. lolol They all wore black to mourn the passing of my youth. And of course black balloons and a tombstone cake. It was a lot of fun. Like your reasoning for #12, good answer!
