I actually had noticed for some time that when she drew a picture of me, my head looked ... square. But I didn't put it all together until she brought her creation home and proudly spread it across the table. She had 5 figures drawn all in a row and a heading that read, "My Family."
One very large stick figure with a round head, a slightly smaller figure with a square head, and three small figures with square heads completed her drawing.
It dawned on me. Round heads were boys, square heads were girls.
"You've got it wrong, sweetie. Boys should be the block heads, I mean, the square heads."
This post was written in response to Writer's Workshop prompt 4. Ask your child to draw a portrait of you or your family and share it with us. Although my children are grown now, I well remember my daughter's portrait of her family!

ReplyDeletehahahahaha... that is great! How funny how children view the world.
ReplyDeleteI love it when my preschoolers draw pictures of me! I currently have two hanging up at school in our "art gallery" on the door. My favorite part is how they depict my hair.
ReplyDeleteHow funny that your daughter made different head shapes for boys and for girls!
I think my wife might be calling be a me a block head. I think a hard head would be a better name lol

Haha! That's cute. I wonder if it was women's hairstyles that made their heads seem square to her?
