Day 3: The Mission

Just now starting the series with us? Go here to start with Day 1.

"What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?"Matthew 18:12 NKJV

Kai followed Simon to his quarters with a slight smile on his face. From past experience, he knew what to expect. Giving out assignments and briefing the messenger on the details was like meat and drink to Simon. If Simon could have been part of an earthly operation portrayed by old film dramas such as "Mission Impossible," he would have been in his element.

Kai imagined him saying, "Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is ..."

"Kai, are you listening? This is not the time to be day-dreaming!" Simon spoke impatiently.

Kai came to himself in Simon's office and stared at the bank of monitor screens filling the wall in front of him. Most of them had images of a Caucasian female from girlhood to her late twenties.

"Sorry, Simon, you were saying?"

"Here is your dossier of your citizen, Morgan Ford." Simon said as he handed Kai a file. "You can observe her at various stages of her development on these monitors."

"Citizen? I'm to take a message to a citizen of heaven, not to an unbeliever?" Kai asked for clarification. Most angels worked with those who had never accepted Christ's gift of redemption; but Kai had a gift of knowing what to do with those who've grown cold from their first love.

Simon sighed and walked over to the window to view the banks of the crystal river sparkling in the reflected radiance of the Son. Gazing at the happy children playing on the riverbank, he said softly, "Yes, she is one of ours, but she has strayed from the path." A silence filled the room as Kai considered what this meant.

After a pause, Simon went on, "She has not been listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit, nor read one word of her Abba's love letter in years."

Kai interjected, "Surely when she joins with the other believers, she has heard a message that pricked her conscience!"

"Joins with other believers? She hasn't stepped inside a church in forever. She bought into that damnable lie that it's not necessary to attend church. You know how much havoc that kind of thinking has brought into the church!"

Kai, shaking his head, replied, "Oh I know - and I've always wondered how they can believe it when it is plainly spelled out in the book of Hebrews to never neglect meeting with each other. Why, they are supposed to do it more and more as times get closer to the coming of the Lord!"Simon ignored this and got back to the matter of hand. "The truth is, she has gone astray; and our Creator has determined He will do what it takes to get her back. He is calling on you to help. Read over the dossier, take time to watch the videos, and then let me know when you are ready to go.

Thanks for joining us today as I introduced a new character to the serial, "Angel on Assignment: The Book of Morgan." Simon is one of my favorite characters; perhaps because a childhood dream of mine was to be someone like Simon and manage missions of importance.

In any case, join us tomorrow as we find out more what the plans are for Kai.

Each day, you can go here to see the link for the next installment of the serial.

Tomorrow's offering:  Prayer of Agreement
