Begin Again

Today, I did something I like to do.  I ripped off the old calendar page and began filling in the clean white spaces of August.  I love new calendar pages - it feels like a new beginning.

Sometimes, though, life begins again on a day that is not the start of a month. Life can change in an instant and you have a new normal to face. Often, the new beginning is a happy event such as when a couple join together in matrimony creating a new family unit. Life is not the same because you "leave and cleave" to your new spouse.

I experienced a new beginning on June 6 when I became a grandmother for the first time. My focus instantly changed to those new precious babies that entered our family. I'm all about "what can I do to make a difference in these babies' lives? How can I show them I love them?"

Once in a while tragedy strikes and you begin life again in a different vein. Last night, a third cousin of mine began a new chapter of her life without her precious Justin. In 1999, my husband and I had to begin again when the doctor told us he would never work again.

Begin again. You never know when you will have to start over.  The great thing is there is One who will walk with you every step of your journey. He said His mercies will be fresh each morning.* I have an idea He said that because He knew some of us face new mornings with new beginnings.

* Lamentations 3:22-23

  1. Good thoughts. Encouraging for me as I will soon begin again - in several areas.

    I know what you mean about turning the page to a new month, but it is different for me this time because we are on the road - finishing an epic journey.

  2. Congratulations on the new grandbabies! Beginnings can be exciting times, especially when they mean new life. They can also be trying times when they mean learning to live in the light of tragedy. Thank you for sharing your Five Minute Friday musings!

  3. The babies are precious!

    It's hard to begin again. My husband and I have had to do that a couple times in the last few years. The road can be tough but with the Lord it's not AS tough!

  5. Lamentations 3:22-23 is certainly a good scripture verse to memorize and remember. So sorry for the loss in your family of your third cousin. We do have lots of changes in our lives, don't we over time? We have lots of "new normals" to get used to, but I am glad the same true God is always there walking alongside us as we do so!

  6. Oh how true! We all have lots of beginnings if we think about it in that perspective.

  8. I am a friend on FMF. Are your new grandchildren twins or cousins? My son had twins two months ago and it is endlessly interesting. I know what you mean about wanting to make a difference in the their lives. I desire that very much.
