Friday's Fave Five - March 23, 2012

Happy Friday to all!  On Fridays, I love to join a group of bloggers who share Friday's Fave Five - five highlights from their previous week. We link up at the lovely Susanne's blog, Living To Tell The Story

1.  Favorite Post to Write:  I loved my Stylin' post from yesterday, but I guess my most favorite is Praise is the Answer, because I DO think praise is the answer to most things that come our way.

2.  Favorite Meal:  Once again, I forgot to take a photo, but my favorite meal this week was French Toast with Bacon.  I love to have breakfast for dinner, and my hubby and I decided we were in the mood for French Toast.  My French Toast recipe calls for Texas Toast to use as the bread.  However, in the little town we live in, there was none to be found at any of the stores.  I remembered reading one time that King's Hawaiian Bread was good to use in a French Toast recipe.  I decided to adapt my recipe and give it a try. Oh. My. Goodness. It. Is. So. Yummy.

Here is the recipe if you'd like to try it:

French Toast Hawaiian

Fill a 9x13 pan with slices of King's Hawaiian Bread (It comes as a round loaf.  You will need about 3/4 of the loaf.)

Mix together:
4 eggs
1 C. half and half
1 T + 1 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. coconut extract

Pour the mixture over the bread slices and let soak for 10-15 minutes.  I always turn my slices over after about 5 minutes to make sure both sides are soaked.

Melt 2 T of butter in an electric skillet on 350°  Place bread in skillet and cover.  Cook 4 minutes, turn, cook 4 minutes more.  Take out of skillet and lay on a platter.  Sprinkle with powdered sugar if you wish.

(Feel free to copy this recipe, but it is my own creation, so please give me credit!)

3.  Favorite Photo(s) of the Week: Last Saturday, Jim and I took our first road trip of the season to look for signs of Spring.  Sadly, I guess we traveled a little too far north and there wasn't many flowers, but we still saw some pretty scenery:

A lovely lil lake with some fishermen trying their luck.
There is just something so calming about sitting beside a lake ...

Rays of sunlight dancing across the lake, joined by a couple geese.

Some purple flowering trees amongst trees waiting for leaves to bud.

One lone white flowered-tree surrounded by evergreens and stick-trees waiting to come back to life.

4. Favorite quote of the week

What God gives in answer to our prayers will always be the thing we most urgently need, and it will always be sufficient.
… Elisabeth Elliot Devotional, 3/6/12

I can't add anything to that quote - Elisabeth Elliot said it all ... (I love reading her devotionals.)

5. Favorite blog post read this week:

Ann Voskamp's "The 1 Reason Why You have to Slow Down"

I think I need to read this every day!

How was your week?  Link up and share!

  5. Yes, praise is the answer--it takes the focus off us and our circumstances and puts it where it should be.
The lake shots are lovely--so peaceful. Lucky ducks :)

  7. Oh my. I love Hawaiian bread and have to stay away from the gigantic packages of the rolls at Costco because if I got it, I'd eat the whole thing. Your photos are sweet indeed. Love the delicate pink appearing on the trees.
