What's On Your Mind '09 - Photo of the Month

The cross you see in the picture above is built on top of a hill called Bald Knob. This cross can be seen from miles around. While driving the hilly winding roads below the cross, you can catch glimpses of it periodically. It shines brightly amongst the green trees. A silent witness.

Friday's Fave Five - September 18, 2009
Yeah! It's Friday again! Time to reflect on my week and share 5 highlights:
1. I love a parade! Saturday, we went to a local festival and my daughter's school marched in the parade. Here she is, on the right, waving a flag:

2. I love a week at home! I took one of my vacation weeks off and spent it at my favorite place in the world: home. I took time to reorganize several areas and then I would just bask in the atmosphere of a clutter-free zone!
3. I love fall decor! I like to change my decor to match the seasons. Below is a picture of my kitchen table with my favorite table runner on it:
I also love the little leaf votive candle holders that I got at Kirklands when I visited Nashville this summer.
4. I love a day out with my hubby! On Wednesday, my husband and I took off to a town about an hour away and went to some favorites: Home Depot and Mackie's Pizza. We loaded up on various paints for some of our decorating projects, and then, since buying home improvement items made us hungry, we went to Mackie's and ordered our favorite supreme pizza that includes thinly sliced apples! You wouldn't believe it, but those apples taste great amongst the mushrooms, peppers, onions, sausage and cheeses! I'm making myself hungry again thinking about it.
5. I love attending a Jeff and Sheri Easter concert! Later that same day, we headed over to another town about 20 miles away. They were having an apple festival complete with rides and all the carnival foods you could want. Of course, Jim had to have a funnel cake. The highlight of the evening was a concert by southern gospel artists, Jeff and Sheri Easter. I just love them. Not only are they talented singers, but so friendly and personable and funny! They performed many of my favorites, especially "Life is Great and Getting Better."
That's my week in a nutshell. I've really enjoyed being off. Monday, it's back to work for me, and I'm glad that I do love my job.

Thankful Thursday - His Masterpiece
Today's Thankful Thursday hostess, Laurie at Women Taking a Stand, has chosen the topic, "We are His Masterpiece" using Ephesians 2:10 as the illustrating scripture:"We are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago."
I love this scripture! My Sunday School class is right now finishing up our study of the book of Ephesians. I remember when we learned in chapter 2 that the word used for masterpiece, the ancient Greek word "poiema," translated workmanship in other translations, actually means His beautiful poem! The Jerusalem Bible translates it as "work of art."
YOU are a beautiful poem, a work of art! Camp on that thought awhile ...
If you're like me, most days I don't feel like a work of art, but it is a process. God is molding and shaping us into what only He can see as the finished product. Molding and shaping can hurt!
I remember years back, it was popular for church kids to sing the song, "I am a Promise with a Capital P." One line in the song goes like this: "I am a great big bundle of potentiality!"
God alone knows our potential. It is an exciting thing for those of us who have been His child for awhile to look back and see how far we have come in this process of becoming what He envisions. As Joyce Meyer says, "I may not be what I should be, but thank God, I'm not what I was!"
Today, I'm thankful that He is leading me on my journey to what He has planned for me. I know that He has planned good things for me to do because Ephesians 2:10 says so. I can rest in that even when that molding and shaping is pinching me and making me feel uncomfortable!

The Simple Woman's Daybook - September 14, 2009
Outside my window... a slightly overcast day.
I am thinking... of the scripture I read this morning:
I don't know about you, but when I was a little girl I wanted to do everything my daddy did. It always tickled me if someone told me that I looked just like my daddy. I should have that same attitude about Abba Father.
I am thankful for... a week off work!
From the kitchen... chicken and dumplings.
I am wearing...my favorite blue jean capris and an aqua T-shirt.
I am creating... treasures out of some of my yard sale goodies. Stay tuned for pictures in upcoming days.
I am going... nowhere today! I'm having a blessed day at home.
I am reading... I just finished re-reading Catherine Marshall's "Christy," one of my all-time favorite books.
I am hoping...to get some projects done during my week off, but also to rest and relax - which is very hard for me!
I am hearing... the breezes in the trees across the road because I get to have my windows open. It's only 68 degrees right now!
Around the house... so many things to be done I can hardly list them. I don't understand anyone that gets bored at home. There are so many things to do! (And, I did used to be a stay at home mom and led a very full and happy life.)
One of my favorite things... saving money and I'm hoping to get better at doing so.
A few plans for the rest of the week: attending a Jeff and Sheri Easter concert, the farmer's market, yard sale-ing, and attending a John Starnes concert.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

This is another photo I took of the place where my dad grew up.
However, the pond wasn't there when he was a boy.

Friday's Fave Five - September 11, 2009
It's time for Friday's Fave Five - a time to reflect on the highlights in our week.
1. A place for everything: I love order, and nothing makes me happier than having my house in order. A couple of days this week, when I came home from work, I noticed that the kitchen was picked up, no dishes in the sink, the countertops and sinks were gleaming. When I leave in the mornings, I try to leave the kitchen spotless. It's great to come home and see that the family maintained it! That makes me feel like cooking dinner!
2. Sunflowers: I noticed in my kitchen this morning that I have a lot of sunflower decorations. I love decorating in the kitchen with sunflowers. Also, I always want yellow walls in my kitchen; I just feel that sunny yellow lifts my spirits.
3. Saving money: I recently started couponing to save on that dreaded grocery bill. I found a couple of pretty good deals this week. I was excited!
4. Grapes: I love grapes - my whole family does - and today they are 99 cents a pound at Kroger. I will be buying a bunch. My favorites are the red grapes, but I'll eat green, too. (I know Susanne said grapes are one of her faves last week, but I love them, too!)
5. A day at home: Monday was Labor Day for those of us who live in the States. It was a great day for me of just relaxing at home, puttering around the house doing this and that, and working on a couple of decorating projects. I even slept in until 9 a.m.! For me, that is an accomplishment!
So, how did your week go? Link up over at Susanne's Living to Tell the Story and tell us about it!

Thankful Thursday - Undeserved Kindness

Most of all, I thank God for not treating me as I deserve. That's the ultimate act of kindness!
"He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve." Psalm 103:10
I deserve nothing good. My goodness on my best day still falls way short of perfection. Yet, He loves me because I accepted His free gift of salvation. Now I'm His child and He extends His grace to me. I'm so thankful!

Friday's Fave Five - September 4, 2009
It's time for Friday's Fave Five once again. FFF is a time where we recall highlights from our week and list our favorites.
1. Hot tea: Now that the mornings are cooler, I've been enjoying my favorite morning beverage. Hot tea is just so soothing to sip while I have my morning devotions.
2. Texas Sheet Cake: Today is our daughter Janae's 18th birthday and her requested birthday cake is my favorite, Texas Sheet Cake! Mmmm... love that fudgy goodness.
3. Favorite pics of Janae: Our daughter is blessed in that she is very photogenic and takes great pictures. I have a lot of favorite photos of her, but today I'm sharing a favorite baby photo:

Some things never change ... notice that she tilts her head in the same direction in both pics?
4. Favorite New Quote: "Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hair stylist you like" Author Unknown
which brings me to my last fave of the week:
5. Humor! I love to laugh and funny stories and quotes are precious to me. If I can laugh, I can feel good no matter how crummy my week may be. I always think a sermon goes over better if you can get your point across with humor.
How did your week go?
